Welcome to my website
I offer Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) on a private basis in the Jesmond area of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
My practice is based within the light and tranquil setting of Jesmond Therapy Centre, situated in
a quiet corner street, with free on-street parking and close to good public transport services. Jesmond Therapy Centre can be viewed by visiting website:
I am also happy to provide personal therapy & mini therapy to trainee CAT practitioners as a training requirement.
CAT is a focused and structured time-limited form of psychotherapy. Its aim is to help recognise and revise unhelpful repeating patterns of thinking, feeling, behaviour and relationships that help maintain unhappiness and distress.
What sets it apart from other "talking therapies" is a unique combination of cognitive and analytic practice (breaks down & examines thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, assumptions and influence of these on feelings, actions & relationships), its use of reformulation (working with your life story to help us share an understanding of your problem and contributing & maintaining factors to this), its understanding of personality & development (how our life experiences, influential relationships, events & surroundings help define the person we become), the collaborative working relationship between client and therapist and supporting/promoting the clients' capacity for self-help.
In my experience, clients often comment on liking the idea that CAT has helped them to help themselves and that change is possible once problems are worked out & understood.
If you find yourself asking "Why do I always end up feeling this way?" or "Why do my relationships always end in the same way?" - CAT can help offer insight & answers to these questions.
If you are feeling stuck and "going round in circles", it can feel more difficult to find a way out of your problems- the help of another is often needed. I can offer you that help.
